چکیده

MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) channels are known for some time now to offer either greater link gains or better spectral efficiency, depending on the correlation level of the scattering environment [1]. However, the benefits to be gained from the use of smarter antenna topologies do definitely not rule out gains available by the use of other techniques, such as polarisation diversity. The present paper investigates the benefits offered by this technique in an outdoor-to-indoor microcell scenario. More specifically, it corroborates previous conclusions drawn from measurements presented in [2] with the help of simulation results. These results have been produced using the COSSAP implementation of a stochastic model of MIMO radio channels developed in the framework of European-funded IST (Information Society Technologies) METRA (Multi Element Transmit and Receive Antenna) project [3]. Moreover, two power allocation strategies are applied to the scenario under study and their performance is compared.

Single-Carrier Frequency-Domain Equalization for Orthogonal STBC over Frequency-Selective MIMO-PLC channels

In this paper we propose a new space diversity scheme for broadband PLC systems using orthogonal space-time block coding (OSTBC) transmission combined with single-carrier frequency-domain equalization (SC-FDE). To apply this diversity technique to PLC channels, we first propose a new technique for combining SC-FDE with OSTBCs applicable to all dispersive multipath channels impaired by impulsive...

Power Allocation Strategies for MIMO Radar Waveform Design

The role of waveform design is central to effective radar resource management for state-of-the art radar systems. The waveform shape employed by any radar system has always been a key factor in determining the performance and application. The design of radar waveform to minimize mean square error (MSE) in estimating the target impulse response is based on power allocation using waterfilling. ...

Energy-Efficient Power Allocation And Performance Estimation For MIMO-MRC Systems

Adaptive power allocation problem where it minimizes the energy-per-good bit (EPG) of a system employing a multiple-input multiple-output maximum ratio combining (MIMO-MRC) scheme is formulated. Closed-form results are obtained for the optimum transmit power and minimum EPG as a function of the number of antennas employed and the quality of the channel. The cumulative distribution function (CDF...

From antenna spacings to theoretical capacities - guidelines for simulating MIMO systems

Capacity increases promised by Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems mostly depend on the spatial correlation properties of the radio channel. This paper investigates the connection between these properties and the capacity figures. It first derives the correlation coefficient between two antenna elements as a function of their spacing, the Power Azimuth Spectrum (PAS), the Azimuth Spre...

Hierarchical DWT-based optimal diversity power allocation for video transmission in OFDMA/MIMO wireless systems

In this paper, we propose novel algorithms for optimal power allocation towards video transmission in orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)-based 4G networks. A unique feature of the schemes is that they employ diversity dependent subcarrier power distribution relying on a discrete wavelet transform (DWT)-based hierarchical video decompo...
